New Around Here
Hi all,

Quick question: Is there a way to or an add-on that allows for adding custom dns entries (dnsmasq) via the UI?

Thanks.

Given time, I believe a developer is thinking of such an Addon.

Until then, here are two threads that might help you get started.

The first thread will show a one line script that will read all your save static IP information from nvram (assuming you used Asus UI to enter them) and creates a dnsmasq.conf.add file that you would put in /jffs/configs.

The second thread can optionally take that file and create a hosts.add file

If you go this route, be sure to disable the Asus web UI Manual Assignment in the LAN settings area after you have created dnsmasq.conf.add

Thank you all, I appreciate your responses.
And thank you for those links, they've been most helpful.

A follow-up question on this: Would setting up a separate DNS server for internal hosts be a better solution for maintaining a (relatively) large number of (internal) DNS entries? Would automatically resolving DHCP assigned address to hostnames from Asuswrt (like dnsmasq does) become an issue if a separate DNS server is set up?

Thanks
