Advice on inexpensive extender for Asus RT AX-86U system

I have a 2000 sq ft home, with an Asus RT AX-86U downstairs. I have 400+ mbps internet, and pretty good reception everywhere except one bedroom, where the signal often drops so low my phone will switch to cellular. Running a cable is not something I know how to do, at least not in a way that would pass the wife test.

There is a spot at the top of the stairs near this bedroom that may be usable for a small router/repeater, preferable one that would hug the wall, as there isn't a lot of space where it's not in the way. It's not a critical spot, so I can handle reduced speeds, even half. Mainly I want to avoid switching to cellular, as I have a limited data plan.

I could buy a mesh system, but I like the Asus/Merlin setup, and would like to try their aimesh. I don't want to invest too much in my current setup, which is dual band. Perhaps in the future I'd want to go tri-band for better performance, but I don't really know much about this. And I don't want to spend too much time learning right now, as I just moved and everything is a mess that needs my attention more than this.

Can anyone recommend a temporary solution for now? Like an inexpensive aimesh-compatible router.
