AiMesh Master Device Selection

Hello there,

i am pretty new to the forum but read for a long time. Now it is time to upgrade my Network and Wifi. So i have now purchased an AX88U and XT8 2pack (thanks Amazon prime day :-D) and i am now wondering on which device i should choose to set it up as a master.

As far i understood the AiMesh master needs to be in router mode - so therefore My AX88u will be the primary and the XT's are the nodes. Would it make sense that way or would the load to high on the AX88u? I have pretty much connected to it (50 LAN and maybe 25 WLAN devices) so therefore i am wondering if it would be possible to have an XT as master within the network?
My plan is to set all of the XT8 to AP mode to avoid double NAT. Would that make sense at all?

I have a modem which is in bridge mode - so i need the ax88u as a standard router, and i want to use its WIFI (the modem doesnt have). But still not sure who should be the master ideally....
All devices will be connected via Ethernet so i intend to activate Ethernet backhaul on all devices.

Is all of that the right assumption - and more importantly - what would be your recommendation?

Thanks a lot

AiMesh is the best way to go with these devices. The AX88U should be good as a router with the XT8's as AiMesh nodes. Ethernet backhaul to the nodes recommended. If you need to use WIFI backhaul you might do better with a tri-band router. The XT8's might be overkill for your use as they are tri-band but you have them at a hopefully bargain price but there are other Asus routers you could use as AiMesh nodes that would have cost you less. Best to set the devices up in AiMesh node and see if they meet your needs. If a firmware update is needed the devices will let you know.

Thanks for your feedback - i will try it exactly as you mentioned. Gladfully i got all devices for a real good bargain at amazon prime day :-D All 3 devices cost me around 500 USD :) I'll let you know when i have setup everything and how i am doing. Thanks again.
