AirportExtreme: Access DNS321 NAS through Over Internet

New Around Here
Dear SNB Forum …

I’m sure that this might have been discussed and explained many times, but normally answers are very general, and my knowledge is so limited, this time I need help like any other six year old needs history lessons …

So, what I want to do seems simple: Access my NAS on my iPad or any Web Broser while being away from my home. There is one way, easy one, but it costs $40 (fliyingmac.com’s Presence), and this does not solve my issues with other apps I need to use.

Anyway, can anyone provide a tutorial for me?? Sorry to sound so stupid, but I have tried everything … (for sure I’m doing it wrong).

This is my setup.

Router: Apple Airport Extreme Base MC340LL/A model A1354 ('4th Generation', previously 'Simultaneous Dual-Band II')
NAS: Dlink DNS 321, Raid 1 config
Mac: Mini 2011, 8gb
OS: Lion 10.7.4, build 11E53
Airport Utility: Version 6 for Lion, and Version 5.6
Apps clients installed and running, which migh be using ports: Teamviewer Client, Splashtop Client, Flying Mac’s Presence, Sugarsync client, Dropbox Client, Skydrive Client, Audiogalaxy Client, Air Video, Air Playit
iPad: MD366LL (New Ipad March 2012), iOS 5.1.1 (9B206); Apps installed, which are connected somehow to my Mac (local Wi-Fi, not necessarily remote wife): All of the above!

Finally, I need to know how to access my NAS, via web, any app, etc.

I’m using a couple of forums, because I’m not sure which is the right one. I’ve used to have a Dlink Router, and port forwarding was so easy, I’m amazed I can’t do it with the Apple Airport Extreme Base; that would be a solution, but I don’t want to give away my AEB.

Please, do treat me like I don’t know anything, and please don’t treat me like: “This is not what a Mac is supposed to do”, I find it insulting that Mac’s are good for some things, and not others, and in many forums people tend to be rude when somebody is asking something that is difficult to address. Please help!

Thanks very much in advance.

An app that accesses media on the NAS would require support for UPnP as well as the AEB. The AEB doesn't support UPnP though, so the NAS would need to have a DHCP reservation(static IP), then try activating NAT-PMP(Apple's form of UPnP), if it doesn't work, then you will need to put the NAS in the DMZ(Apple calls it Default Host and it will open all ports to the NAS). Your apps seem to just access their own desktop hosted servers, they may not work with UPnP(NAS). So you may need to find apps that support UPnP. The NAS has a iTunes server, FTP server, and UPnP. The only thing you can access via a browser is the web config or FTP. You will want to create a dynamic DNS(Dyn.com, No-IP.com, Freedns.afraid.org) address for your internet IP. eg. mydlinkdns.no-ip.com is the dynamic dns you created, you would use http://mydlinkdns.no-ip.com to get to the web config and ftp://mydlinkdns.no-ip.com to get to the FTP. Be sure to use complex passwords and hard to guess user names on the NAS to protect it from others. You can port forward with the AEB, they just call it port mapping. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Apple/AirPortExtreme/D-Link_DNS-320.htm
