Amped wireless ap20000g - how does 600mW compare?

I looked at the Amped wireless ap20000g access point. It is marketed as a 600mW transceiver model. How does this compare to the industry? How much "strength" do others have?

Not very much actually - the connection between AP and Client has been designed at the standards level to be somewhat symmetric - so moa'r powr on the AP side doesn't mean better performance...

Analogy:

Rock band on stage amp'd all the heck, doesn't let them hear you any better.

WiFi is two-way. Not a broadcast.

That is roughly the range you'll see, yes.

It equates to around a 4dB difference in signal strength between 200mw and 600mw. Modest, but again, you have the inbalanced signal strength issue then, which can cause issues with roaming if you have more than one access point. High power radios are really only a good thing when you have them on the basestation and the client...like say a high powered USB wifi adapater and a high powered basestation. Or a couple of wifi bridges.

Then high powered stuff can be of benefit (if it is properly designed for good distortion control).

Agree. A high power WIFi router will out-talk the clients, as said in the rock-band analogy.
