That is roughly the range you'll see, yes.
It equates to around a 4dB difference in signal strength between 200mw and 600mw. Modest, but again, you have the inbalanced signal strength issue then, which can cause issues with roaming if you have more than one access point. High power radios are really only a good thing when you have them on the basestation and the client...like say a high powered USB wifi adapater and a high powered basestation. Or a couple of wifi bridges.
Then high powered stuff can be of benefit (if it is properly designed for good distortion control).
