If you want to be able to sniff traffic on your WAN (or wired LAN) and don't want to install tcpdump on your Asus, Amazon is selling Netgear GS305e switches for $15 (or the 8 port GS308e for $27). They support port mirroring and can be used as an ethernet tap to plug into your PC for sniffing/monitoring purposes.

I personally have not used this model, but I can't see how they'd get mirroring wrong.

They also support VLANs, some basic QoS etc, good price for a semi-smart switch. And supposedly they are not one of the netgear products that force you to create a login and agree to data sharing etc (not yet anyway).
