APIPA start range

New Around Here
Hi,
I have a serious question!
Why APIPA alway start with 169?
Why it doesn't start with 120 or 195 or something like that?
What is the matmatical purpose behind it?
Thanks

This is the specific IP range of non routable to Internet addresses designated for this specific purpose of self assigning an IP with no DHCP available.

Thanks for your information, but my teacher ask that question for all the students, he said if you answer it, you will get 2 Average marks in the Network.
He said what is the matmatical Purpose behind the 169 IP that chosen to be APIPA start range ?!
He said you can solve it with 2 step of multiply and divide?!
It has relation with something like 2⁸ subnet?

Then review the notes, materials, and reference works your teacher has provided to get that information.

Disect that information once more. Every word, phrase, and paragraph is a clue for you to decipher.

If the teacher is only giving bonus marks for things he doesn't teach, tell him/her to be a better teacher. Because if that is so, then you don't need him/her at all to learn.

I don't know what exactly your teacher wants to see, but we are talking about IPv4 addresses, they have 32-bit address space, APIPA range has /16 subnet or 32-bit divided by 2, or 65536 addresses, or 2^16, or good enough number of IP addresses for temporary communication between devices on a local network during eventual DHCP server outage for some reason. Not sure what is the right answer, but it's all the same thing. I hope I hit the 2 Average Marks (whatever it means) by accident. 🧐
