New Around Here
1. hi can anyone please tell me, that router firewall for asus has to be on or off, as page says it will only follow filter rules, and i don't have any filter rules.

2 . also in wan > nat pass through i got all these disabled is it ok ?

3. is there any better OS than ASUS OS for 59U version 2 ? like merlin etc. and is it better than asus stock OS ? if anyone using it on same model and can give feedback better :)

4. Also does anyone know if 59u version 2 is better than 59u version 1 ? or is there any difference in performance in range and performance ? i was using 58u before and it had slight range problem and not really a big deal, but isp person broke its antenna when he came to repair the line, so i got this 59u and i am noticing really poor smb/ftp file transfer speeds on 59u, few gb can take an hour or more. On 58U it was super fast without any connection drops !

please tell if anything needs to be changed/enables or any security flaw etc. ty

You ALWAYS want the firewall on. Running any other way is a huge security risk.

but does the firewall on asus router do anything if there are no filter rules ? as i have not put any filter rules, since it says frewall will follow filter rules, or does it follow other rules too which we don't see in the page ?

Filter rules are special rules that the user sets for certain situations as needed. If you have no need for special rules then the firewall works by default as intended. Leave your firewall enabled always.
