Asus GT-AX11000 wif router and Arris Surfboard S33 Cable Modem speed upgrade

I have been unable to upgrade the speed on my Asus GT-AX11000 after Xfinity increase my speed to 2.5 Gbps from 1 Gbps. I tried increasing the speed by changing the primary WAN speed from 1 to 2.5Gbps but when I do I cannot connect via wifi or ethernet. I have tried many different configuration and rebooted both modem and router several times. I am now focused on a a possible compromise if it is dooable. Since I have both a mesh network and multiple ethernet connectionsin on the upper floor office where the equipment is, is it at least posible to increase the speed for ethernet connected devices?
Is it possible to run an ethernet line from my Cable 2.5 Gbps port to a 2.5 Gbps switch then a line from that switch to anothet 2.5 Gps switch feeding all the wall plugs, while running anothe line from the first switch to the Asus GT-AX11000, therefore giving 2.5 Gbps speed to the ethernet connections but not the wifi router?
thanks for your input.

you need a routing and DHCP function directly after the modem. So, no, you can't get multi Gb speed on the rest of the lan with multiple IP addresses. To do what you want you need a new gateway device with all 2.5Gb ports and throughput. Probably a mini PC running Pfsense or Opensense would do.

Or you could add an ASUS router with at least two 2.5 Gb ports and a switch with multiple 2.5 Gb ports after it connected to your LAN. What you have was intended to distribute 2.5 Gb to many 1 Gb LAN clients.

Honestly, your clients won't notice the difference even if you change out or upgrade hardware. You will only gain bragging rights and speed test results of little importance.

Interesting just go off a chat with Asus tech. Their suggestion is to first connect to a 2.5 G switch then to the router. They think that would work.
