Asus N66U w/378_7410 frmwr and editing openvpn files under /jffs

Hi, folks. I have been having a problem with OpenVPN on my N66U for a while, and I just can't seem to get to the bottom of it. I documented it here: http://www.snbforums.com/threads/n66u-frmw-3-0-0-4-378_4850-verify-error-depth-0-error-unsupported-certificate.27160/.

The Q in this new thread is actually of a different nature: considering the many unsuccessful attempts of fixing the original problem (see link above), is there anything harmful in trying to rebuild the entire OpenVPN structure by recreating the necessary files under /jffs/openvpn, i.e.
<username>@RT-N66U:/jffs/openvpn# ls
vpn_crt_server1_ca
vpn_crt_server1_client_key
vpn_crt_server1_key
vpn_crt_server1_ca_key
vpn_crt_server1_crt
vpn_crt_server1_client_crt
vpn_crt_server1_dh
using vi, which seems to be available in this firmware version?
