Asus over-writing custom iptables rules - ASUS n56u

Occasional Visitor
I have an ASUS n56u router. The gui didn't offer the flexibility I needed, so I logged in to the device and created iptables rules. I have attempted adding the rules to the filter.default and filter_rules file. For some reason when I make a change in the gui and apply changes my custom rules get deleted. Does anyone know what I can do, so my rules will remain through changes, reboots etc...

Thanks

That file is dynamically created every time the router is configuring the firewall - you cannot use it to apply any change.

There is no way with the stock firmware to provide your own iptable rules, you will need to go down the custom firmware route for this.

Hey Merlin,

wondering if you have any experience with Optware for the n56u. It's the only alternative firmware I have found. BTW noticed you are from Canada. I am as well. Hopefully it's warmer where you are because because my area is freezing.

No, I never used an RT-N56U.

Temperature is varying between -15 and -20C these past few days, with a pretty bad wind chill. Should get better starting today tho.
