As I am preparing to move to a new apartment and planning on building my new network I decided to play with Mikrotik RB5009. The idea was to tinker with it as a main router for a while using my RT-AC5300 as an access point. Can I really do it? If yes, what should I do?

First you need to switch your RT-AC5300 to AP Mode. Home routers don't natively support VLANs though and if you need Guest Network with LAN separation you need to install Asuswrt-Merlin firmware and look around this forum how to set VLANs on this router using custom scripts.
