ASUS RT-AC68R and Netgear WNR1000 as Repeater

ASUS RT-AC68R and want to use my old Netgear WNR1000 as Repeater but can't see to find a way for make this work can anyone help me

If the WNR1000 doesn't have Repeater mode in the factory firmware; you may need to use alternate firmware like DD-WRT (no experience and no recommendation for it either).

Can you use it as an AP instead (wired directly to the main router)?
