Hello -

I cannot access webmail.san.rr.com or mail.twc.com since setting up this router. I get:
This site can’t be reached
webmail.nyc.rr.com took too long to respond.

ERR_TIMED_OUT

In addition I cannot setup Microsoft Outlook to use mail:
ERROR: 554 5.7.1 - Blocked for abuse, See http://postmaster.rr.com/outbound_spam_control
or
A message in your Outbox could not be sent. The account which created the message cannot be found.

I have NO issues with any other websites!

Anyone else run into these issues?

Thanks

Based on the Outlook message, it seems like the IP your ISP provided you has been blacklisted. Using a new router will often cause your ISP to provide you with a new IP (due to the new MAC address associated with the new router).

Contact your ISP and look with them on how to either get a new IP, or have them contact the blacklists that contain that IP and have it removed.

Or trying turning off the modem and router for 30 minutes or more (if possible, an hour isn't 'overkill' either).

Now, boot up the modem and wait 5 minutes and then boot up the router and wait another 5 minutes for the network equipment to settle down.

If you were lucky with the above, you may have your old (or at least an new IP) that isn't blocked anymore.

Thanks for the info, I will try this. ASUS could not assist and never mention an IP issues could be the cause.

This is what lifted a red flag for me:

ERROR: 554 5.7.1 - Blocked for abuse,

I manage multiple mail servers for various customers, so dealing with blacklists is something I'm used to. Not something a router tech support would ever think about :)

For the other postmasters out there, here's an invaluable tool:

http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

L&LD's method might work. My recommendation would be to turn off the modem before going to bed, and turn it back on tomorrow morning. With any luck, your ISP will no longer be reserving the same IP for your router's MAC, and issue a new IP.

Other alternatives are to deal with the ISP, or close a different MAC address on your router (to force obtaining a new IP).

As Merlin stated changing the MAC address behind a cable modem will force an IP change most likely the new IP is blacklisted for what ever reason. It is very unlikely calling your provider will do any good you could try contacting the mail provider and see if they can help or simply clone a MAC address from another device on your network via the router and that will force another IP change and likely solve your problem.

If this is a responsible ISP, they will want to at least ensure that they get their IP cleared if it's indeed blacklisted, as otherwise it will be a recurring issue for their customers whenever someone ends up on that IP.

Depending on how their DHCP server works, they might be able or not to "unbind" that specific IP from the user's router MAC.

I'm sure the isp could help him with the problem its getting a phone rep that even knows what he is talking about. I have Comcast but I'm sure TWC is the same. Easier to just clone a MAC address via the router then in some time that ip will be assigned somewhere else and he can unclone and get a new one again.

FWIW - if OP is truly blacklisted, then he needs to see if he's malwared up somehow... otherwise as soon as he changes IP's, he'll likely get black-holed again...

A responsible ISP doesn't want to land on SpamHaus RBL, because once there, it's total hell to get off it (been there, done that, no t-shirts for that one) - so the ISP has their own spam apps to detect if someone is sending out lots of spam, and yes, they'll take the appropriate action...

please move this to the appropriate ASUS forum

His issue had nothing to do with his router. Blacklisting was on the ISP's IP, won't matter what router he's using.

It does raise a question - the Asus sub-forum community for many that own Asus routers is the fastest and most direct means to a solution - and a lot of very smart folks that have detailed knowledge...

There's quite a few queries that fall flat because folks either don't know, or for whatever reason, don't post there.
