Asus RT-AC88U with Merlin 384.15

Hi Guys, I do have a question around getting a better and faster Wifi on my router.
I was reading below forum entry and like to understand what does make "Format JFFS partition at next boot" so special for that router? Or is there a slight difference between AC68U and AC88U?

Access to JFFS it a Asuswert-Merlin addition to stock Asus firmware. More info here.

Any Asus router that has support for an Asuswrt-Merlin build will allow use of JFFS and user scripts.
