Asus RT-BE92U random loss of internet connectivity

New Around Here
Hi

I have been having several problems with this router since 'upgrading' to it.

Some users report random loss of connectivity. This was mainly affecting iphone users, but i have had issues with my LG TV and some other devices.

I am also getting strange AiMesh behaviour. I have a couple pf old routers and a RP-AX56 extender. The RT-AC68U seems to be stable all the time but the RP-AX56 behaves very strangely, even when not located very far away from the router. The RT-AX82U also does not like the AiMesh although this is located a bit further away.

All devices are on the latest firmware.

A couple of minor points.... has anyone noticed that the internet speed checker has gone (under Adaptive QS tab). All i now have is a graphic?

Also, are you only allowed to have one main network? If I try and add another, it comes up with the message (your rules have reached the maximum'. I cannot see where to change this rule though? Is it possible to change this?

Matt

It's a horrendous router, I've missed my window to return it. I suggest if you can you do. I've tried every single piece of advise and it is still completely unstable

All we can hope is for a firmware update asap.

Merlin latest is based on 2nd to latest ASUSwrt. If you experience trouble may want to try reverting to latest ASUS firmware, (based on change log).

I might be mistaken, but you can have more than one main network so long as you don't choose all 3 frequencies into one. For tri-band I would suggest separating 6 GHz, but keep 2.4 and 5 GHz together in the other. I still call it "Smart Connect" per ASUS (old) terminology. The reason I separate them is because then you can select WPA2/WPA3 for 2.4 and 5. 6 GHz requires WPA3 which if you make a single main network with all three bands most likely forces 2.4 and 5 to WPA3. (This drops a single iPad Air 2 on my network but you might have more WiFi 5 clients than me)...

You can also add guest/IoT networks...

EDIT- It may be counterintuitive but pull the AC router(s) out of AiMesh with the BE92U. If you still want/need to use it/them wire them with Ethernet and set them to AP mode (with AiMesh). I also had a RT-AC68U and it has now been on the EOL list for a while. (I replaced it with a RT-AX5400 almost a year ago).

I am still having wi-fi issues with no mesh network..... im still on the Merlin fw. i have turned off most features too.... very very annoying to say the least.

Sorry maybe i wasn't clear.... I have managed to set up separate 'main' networks with 2.4, 5 and 6g. You can do this. it will only allow you to do this on initial setup though. You cannot seem to add later (although there is a button for it). I have them all separate as well, i like to do this as many client can only connect to 2.4g.

I have guest and IoT networks as well, but they are both listed under Guest Network, which is not really correct... the IoT network should be under the main network list.... its just a bit odd.

I was thinking about re-adding the mesh network. Are the clients best added and set up by ethernet rather than over the air? Is there a difference.

Any thoughts on the setup to make wi-fi more reliable would be appreciated.

Many thanks as always.

Try the ASUS firmware 3.0.0.6.102_37548. If I'm not mistaken beyond choosing what ASUS provides for WiFi @RMerlin does not tinker with WiFi, I believe he said it is "proprietary". That means unless he merged the latest firmware it is potentially not the latest WiFi...

Check "Use same subnet as main network" for IoT network.

If by "clients" you mean ASUS routers/RPs, adding them to AiMesh via Ethernet is my preferred method. It saves me the step(s) of moving them close to the main router, adding the AiMesh node, then relocating it and reconnecting the Ethernet cable. On very rare occasion I am not able to add via Ethernet through an unmanaged switch, so I connect it directly to the main router Ethernet port...

I can try to pull up my 2.4 and 5 GHz settings. They are not WiFi 7 enabled. Only my 6 GHz-2 has WiFi 7 enabled. (In fact my son took his 6E MacBook Pro with him to San Francisco, so my phone is the only 6 GHz capable device in the household now)...

thanks so much for this... i have changed some settings.... lets see if it makes a difference! My smart connect Rule page is not populated.... is this normal?

ASUS made big rearrangement of things. Some, including me at times, (I guess I inherited dementia/memory loss from my mother), thought SmartConnect was actually removed. Smart Connect is automatically created when you combine 2 or more channels, so in your case I would suggest 2.4 and 5 GHz into one SSID (and password). It's pretty mature tech so I prefer to use it. When you separated each then they are not SmartConnected...

WiFi Agile Multiband is by default disabled. I personally enable it because I use a TP-Link and ACER router in the same household. If you have exclusively ASUS then I would leave it default (which I believe is off)...

I have two BE92U in AiMesh, MLO/SmartConnect enabled, no AiProtection/QoS, on the latest ASUS firmware. Not one disconnection since day one. Running the latest ASUS Firmware 3.0.0.6.102_37548
