Asus RT-N56U

New Around Here
FIRST OFF: This may be the wrong section, but I saw network and storage next to each other.

OK, I just bought the Asus RT-N56U, and connected my external hard drive. Now, I can connect to it using the Internet FTP link provided by the router, but when trying to ping? it (I believe that's what it's called lol, I've never meddled with it much until now) by going to run and entering \\RT-N56U, I get the following error.

If I butchered all of the above technical jargon, which I'm sure I did. I'll explain in the simplest way I can... I can access the hard drive via the IP in my browser to view/download files but am not able to upload any files, which is the goal/purpose of creating this thread.

Thanks in advance for any help given,
Alan

EDIT: Proof that the hard drive is connected to the router just fine.

If you only created an account for FTP, and did not do so by executed the AiDisk utility, you will not have an account for Network Neighborhood Sharing. Make sure you have an account with privileges. If you do, perhaps a stop and a starting of the services by removing the drive, and then reattaching the drive will resolve your issue. NOTE! REMOVE SAFELY FIRST! Then you may remove the plug from the USB port. If you do not have an account simple create one, and the issue should be resolved.

What you were doing with the browser was not executing the ping utility (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ping); you were simply trying to access a resource that is not available via a browser (Web browser such as Internet Explorer, Explorer). By default the router has accept pings from WAN disabled. If you were to be pinged the packet will be dropped, and without any response to the host pinging you because of the default configuration. This is normal, and not an issue.
