New Around Here
Hi Guys,

Just bought one of these yesterday to run my network off of at home so I can watch BBCiplayer etc on my xbox one.

I'm having some problems..

I'm based in France and have an orange livebox modem router which the asus router is connected to. My intention was to get the asus all setup, and then to disable the wifi from the livebox so I did not have multiple SSID's.

However I've set everything up and connected to my VPN which is with express VPN and I'm finding that if I run a speedtest on my orange SSID the speed is around 12mbs and if I run a speedtest on the asus SSID the speed is under 4MB's.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be?

I have just updated to the latest firmware hoping that this would solve the issue but it has not.

Thanks for any input.

Will

If you are running the VPN on your ASUS router the speeds you are seeing are what to expect when using a good to better SOHO router. A VPN uses a lot of the router's processing power and slows everything down. Perhaps with optimal setup and a fast VPN server you might get 60% or your connection speed without the VPN. Tweak your settings and test and find the fastest server in your destination country.

Try running the VPN on your PC connected directly to your modem. This is your best case scenario with lots of RAM and a powerful processor.
