New Around Here
I have not been totally impressed with my ZenWifi xd6. I have it setup in a mesh and it is just ok for handling devices. I have been wondering if it might be ok to reset the zen node and nodule up as just a standard primary router with the nodule set up as a wired access point. Is this going to make things worse. Would I just set them up individually like in a standard router and AP setup?

Yes, you can do that, set the two nodes up as a router wired to an AP. Don't know if it'll be better for you or not, try it and see.

Is this going to make things worse.

You'll lose Guest Network to the node, if you need/use one. Otherwise you may actually get much better performance using different channels for the router and the access point. Same SSIDs are fine. You can also control the Tx power individually. The "roaming" is the same.
