New Around Here
Hi all,

I recently got a XT8. When turning it on the led just turns white and keeps white. Nothing else happens, no wireless, no ethernet. No reset, hard-reset is possible and also no factory reset because the ethernet port is down.

I decided to check the serial console of the router. Can anybody tell me if the output says something about a hardware defect? It stops with DIE0 after NAN3.

Here is the serial output:

I found one link in the internet (https://forum.openwrt.org/t/ecc-errors-on-r8000p/135423) with similar output and it resumes with:

That's not good. The normal boot-up process includes the LED turning green or blue shortly after power-on. If you aren't able to get out of this by hard-resetting the unit, then it's busted, possibly beyond repair. You might be able to use ASUS' firmware restoration tool to re-flash the firmware, but I'm not holding out huge hope for that.

No reset, hard-reset is possible and also no factory reset because the ethernet port is down.

I don't know what resources you've been consulting, but the ethernet port has nothing to do with a hard reset of an XT8. The method I usually use is per ASUS' FAQ:

1. Turn the power off.
2. Press and hold the WPS button (white button on bottom of router) and turn the router on.
3. Power light is on (keep holding the WPS button).
4. Continue to press and hold the WPS button.
You see the power LED light on(white) -> power LED light turn off -> power
LED light flashing green color -> power LED light turn off and then you
can release the WPS button. (Only takes ~10 seconds)
5. Reboot your router by manually cycling the power button.
Wait for LED to go blue.

Try that first, then see if firmware restoration is possible, and otherwise ... can you return it?

If it is from a store, take it back for a return/rma

Otherwise, contact Asus customer care for warranty service

I bought a used one and I think that the previous owner flashed a wrong firmware on the device. Thanks @tgl but as it stucks at DIE0 the recovery partition seems to be destroyed and no more recovery is possible.

Also the warranty already expired :/
