I may be one of the few that's still using this mesh wifi system and I can say that the last few firmware upgrades have gone off without a hitch. I'm using a main XD4 as my primary router with two XD4 satellite nodes in wired backhaul mode. All of my wireless clients which include televisions, iphones, ipads, laptops and desktops seamlessly roam between nodes without issue. The system provides my 3000 sq/ft home with complete wifi coverage.

I really appreciate timely firmware updates and the XD4s continue to get them. If anyone out there from Asus is listening I just want to say thanks. My system just works and requires zero maintenance other than a reboot after a firmware update.

Same here with a XT9 trio, one as router + two nodes.
The kit has been working for almost a year without ANY problems, but I am disappointed with two "features".
1) I have the Nodes ethernet connected and the backhaul connection priority is set to 2.5 WAN only, but the thing also sends two backhaul hidden wireless streams, which is incomprehensible in congested wifi spectrum.
2) It would be very useful, at least in my case but also for many other users with an 1Gb internet connection, to be able to select one of the 1Gb LAN port as WAN and the 2.5G WAN to be used as LAN, to connect the ethernet backhaul and also my NAS to speed up the internal LAN network.
Otherwise thank you Asus!

A bit late to this, but came across it looking for general info on this kit.
I have previous experience with higher level ASUS routers and the Asuswrt-Merlin firmware for those (and sorely lacking for this). Also once was able to call myself a CCNA, but I digress.
I bought this during the Dark Days of COVID when a couple family members found themselves doing work and school remotely, and my previous AC68U seeming to not suffice. Needed something new THAT DAY and BestBuy had the XD4. It's served well ever since, with a couple caveats.
- Forget about buying additional nodes from ASUS. They were very clear that they don't sell them. All or nothing and that sucks. I did find one on eBay though.
- Wishing upon wish there was an Asuswrt-Merlin firmware for it, that I know would be properly maintained.
