asuswrt merlin on a RT-AC1900p

I have downloaded the latest firmware RT-AC86U_384.9_0. I have tried to install this wireless via the gui and I get a firmware fail. I have tired the same way wired same result. I have change my ip address of the computer to 192.168.1.5. I have tried via the recovery software from Asus website. I did this both wireless and wired. It tries to upload and then says it was unsuccessful. I did a factory reset. I have soft reset the router every time I started this process. Any ideas. Is there something I'm missing. This is driving me bonkers.

I'm confused what router are you trying to upgrade?

I have downloaded the latest firmware RT-AC86U_384.9_0.

You are using the wrong firmware, it should be the RT-AC68U version.
