ATT Uverse

My brother and his family are using ATT Uverse for their broadband service provider (cable). They have a VIP1225 cable modem and an Arris NVG589 Router. They use the Digital TV service too with DVR etc. I know nothing about how all that works. My brother just picked up a 3TB Airport Time Capsule. Can they remove the Arris Router and just use the Airport Time Capsule for their router needs? And or can they remove the cable modem and upgrade to a new Motorola cable modem and use the Airport Time Capsule router?

Thanks

If they're using U-Verse for their broadband service, that cable modem can be disconnected and put away. ATT doesn't do cable.

U-Verse requires using ATT's equipment. This is because of their proprietary 802.1x authentication, but they also state this is necessary for remote troubleshooting and for pushing out future updates.

However, with that said, it is still possible to use the Airport Time Capsule in combination with ATT's equipment. See here:

Thanks for the reply :)

My brother and his wife are clueless about an actual router having a web GUI page. I'm familiar with my Asus router page. You wouldn't happen to know the address and default log in for the Arris router, so I can configure it, would you?
