I have a comcast docsis 3.0 modem (arris tg862) in bridge mode and I use an rt-n66u as a wireless router.
Auto setup for the rt-n66 selects "automatic ip" in the wan-internet connection type. Does that sound right ? Why not pppoe ? Can I force it to use static ? There is really no isp username password.

Usually DSL connections to the Internet are PPPoE which would require username and password and cable connections which is Comcast is a Dynamic IP (DHCP) connection. Try that to see if it that works

Cable connections are Dynamic/Automatic. Only DSL uses PPPoE.
