So im loving the merlin firmware but i had an issue and restored defaults. Before that i had the traffic data stored on a thumb drive plugged into the router. After i restored defaults i set the router to save data to the usb drive but all of the previous data was gone.

Traffic Analyzer data is not on USB, it's in the /jffs partition. You are confusing it with Traffic Monitoring.

Stock firmware does not allow storing persistent Traffic Monitoring data.

If the data file is still in the same location then yes, it should reuse it without any problem, as long you don't change router (the database filename contains the MAC address) or don't select the option to create a new database (which would overwrite it).
