I noticed that when passing traffic from the AImesh node to the Aimesh router. My bandwidth drops. I thought it was the media converter. I already swapped out a working media converter and it's still the same. I confirmed that all media converters can give 1gbps when connected to the LAN port of the AIMESH NODE.

I'm not sure if this is expected but I'm planning to connect my Asus 56v2 ethernet backhaul to Asus 68u lan port. . I'm afraid my speed will get halved again from ax56v2 to 88u. Ignore the powerline connection. It's a workaround till the fiber connection is set up.

great that you are using iperf for the testing. It's a good start :)

i also think good to take the 'media converters' out of the picture for the testing.

I have no idea what firmware you are using on both main router and nodes - this is important - as there are some firmwares that had an issue with connections speeds being poor. you might be able to find them if you search the forum

i'm not sure about each of the scenarios you are testing but this is what i would do for testing.

Get setup and baseline:
install latest stock installed on your node
install latest firmware (stock or merlin) on main router
use a pc/nas connected to lan port of main router for iperf server (not iperf on router as it is not very consistent)
run a lan iperf test (e.g. from a laptop connected to lan port) baseline test to establish max lan network speed to iperf server - this is the max and a test of stable connectiton main router

Test 1 - node to router (all lan directly connected)
node connected wired direct from lan port of router to wan of node
test client connected to lan port of node
run iperf test

Test 2 - node to router (all lan connected through ethernet/powerline/etc)
node connected wired over ethernet cable/powerline/etc from router to wan of node
test client connected to lan port of node
run iperf test

etc...

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the feedback. I will be installing firmware 386.7_2 on both ac882 and ac682. Then use Cat 6 to test your recommendation.

Lol. I replaced all the cables with Cat6 issue seems to be fixed. The cat5e wires seem to be worn out bad. I just remembered that I recycled these cables from 6 years ago. This is my iperf result btw.

Results look good to me using ethernet backhaul.

If you had the node wireless backhaul (like me) you would not get such good result :)

also worth testing a client connected wireless to main AP (from approx 2m away) and same test when connected to the node

a simple cable swap, that's all it took? (are you sure they were cat5e and not just cat5? they dont relly "wear out," but if a termination fails on a pair, your speeds will suffer- this is why people are changing to fibre, which passes signal at speed or simply doesn't...)
