BE86U OpenVPN server denies access to LAN after a while

OpenVPN server is set to "both" LAN and internet. When connected, client (Mac, using OpenVPN connect) is able to access internet and LAN without issues, but after a while access to LAN gets denied. Re-connecting VPN or restarting computer does not change this. Restarting router or re-applying VPN server settings restores access to LAN.
This issue did not happen initially, but now it gets more and more often. It appears that access is denied after client Mac has been put to sleep, but restarting it does not change anything, so maybe it is unrelated.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this? When LAN is not accessible, connection to router (and Internet) is OK, but other LAN devices cannot be pinged. Thanks.
