BE88U traffic analyzer

Two

New Around Here
I have a very basic, slightly stupid question about traffic analyzer. On the BE88U, the traffic analyzer displays the top 5 users. The first one listed as using the most is only identified by a MAC address that I can’t find anywhere on my network. Its biggest category is TLS/SSL, which I see as pretty standard. Am I missing something, is there a way to identify who or what that user is? I’d appreciate any information.

If you go to the Network Map page and click on the Client list you might be able to see the MAC address there if it's online.

Thanks for the response, but it is not on the client list and it doesn’t appear to be the router itself.

What is the MAC address?

You could try this:

Go to LAN - DHCP Server and click on the "Client Name (MAC Address)" drop-down list at the bottom of the page. Click on "Show Offline Client List". Now hover the mouse pointer over each name in the list until you find one that matches the MAC address.

Block the MAC address, and pay attention to someone screaming foul, (or wear ear protection)...

Range Extenders/Repeaters, do you use any?

Yes, I have a TP-Link extender. I thought at first that that could be it, but I can’t find the MAC address anywhere in it.

I have accumulated a whole bunch, then I found out within the last couple of weeks that they either tend to publish their own MAC address, or the virtual MAC created as @ColinTaylor notes. It turns out there are very few models with WDS Mode that passes the true clients' MAC addresses...

Thanks for the info. It pointed me in the right direction, and I learned a lot about MAC addresses in the process. The MAC address is for my tp-link extender. That’s the info I needed.
