Following some or all of the links in the post below may help. Otherwise, many say john9527's fork of the RMerlin firmware is the best for that router (though, you will need to follow the same steps after flashing any new (or older) firmware on your router.

You'll probably need to use the Asus firmware restore tool to move to an older firmware (if your current firmware still allows it). The gui will be no use at all.

Thank you so much! I just changed to the firmware you mentioned. So far, everything's alright. Will update if anything goes bad again.
 
Hi Yasodharan,
what firmware does you use now for the RT-N66u?
Is the Wifi-Range better as with the stock Firmware?
Have also a bad WiFi-Rabge with any stock firmwraes.
