better range using Merlin? ac87u

I have an AC87 at home using the latest asus firmware that's stable.
The range of the 2.4ghz and 5g seems poor. Was wondering if using Merlin firmware would actually extend range or coverage? Sorry for noob question.

There will be no difference at all in wifi performance with my firmware versus the stock one.
