I have a problem with my cable modem's bridged internet connection. My cable modem is a Tecnicolor CGA4236TCH1. My ISP sends firmware updates about every 7-14 days. My internet connection stops working and the ISP gateway MAC address does not respond to the ARP query. This always happens the same way. Some may think that the IP address is important, but the MAC address is even more important. The cable modem's connection is fine and the LED is blinking, but the internet connection is impossible. Releasing and renewing the IP address fixes the connection. In routed mode, this connection problem does not exist. I use a script on the EdgeRouter Pro device. The script checks the ARP table every 5 minutes, if the MAC address is <incomplete> or missing, the IP address is released and renewed. This cannot be done on all devices. Is there any other way to fix this problem?
I have investigated and confirmed the problem. Others may have the same problem, but I was able to investigate and determine the exact root cause.
