Buffalo’s new Windows Storage Server 2016 TeraStations are designed to integrate into existing Windows environments.

The WS5020 series is powered by an Intel Atom C3338 CPU with 8 GB DDR4 ECC RAM. Based on disk capacity (HDDs are included) and form factor, the WS5020s are available in five desktop and two rack-mountable models:

  • WS5220DN04W6 – Desktop, 4 TB (two HDDs) and two USB 3.0 ports
  • WS5220DN08W6 - Desktop, 8 TB (two HDDs) and two USB 3.0 ports
  • WS5420DN08W6 - Desktop, 8 TB (four HDDs) and two USB 3.0 ports
  • WS5420DN16W6 - Desktop, 16 TB (four HDDs) and two USB 3.0 ports
  • WS5420DN32W6 - Desktop, 32 TB (four HDDs) and two USB 3.0 ports
  • WS5420RN16S6 – Rackmount, 16 TB (four HDDs) and three USB 3.0 ports
  • WS5420RN32S6 - Rackmount, 32 TB (four HDDs) and three USB 3.0 ports
The WSH5610 series is a 6-bay desktop NAS series that runs on an Intel Celeron J1900 CPU with 8 GB DDR3 memory. There is also a second, independent RAID CPU for better RAID and workload performance.

With their included 6 HDDs, each WSH5610 supports hardware 0/1/5/6 RAID configurations and are available in 12 TB (WSH5610DN12S6), 24 TB (WSH5610DN24S6), and 48 TB (WSH5610DN48S6) models. Additional interfaces on the WSH5610 series include two GbE network ports, one USB 3.0 port, and two USB 2.0 ports.

Both Buffalo WS5020 and WSH5610 products are available now.

Is Windows Storage Server 2016 the same as Windows Server Essentials 2016? I have not kept up. I am thinking about replacing my Home Server 2011.
