I've been trying out the new 88U in comparison to the 87U I have. Once its up a and running it seems to be a very fast, stable router.
Unfortunately, there was a bug in the setup routine. If you ethernet cable it to a computer that you are using to set up, and don't use port 1, the GUI will not launch, and there will be now way to access the setup routine. I discovered this on my own after trying random fixes for about an hour. Putting the ethernet cord back to port 1 solved the problem. This should either be fixed or documented in the setup instructions.
What did not solve the problem is calling tech support. I know that the techs who monitor this forum have nothing to do with the phone folks, but someone needs to pass a message on to the powers that be. Asus used to have really excellent phone support, now it seems to be lagging the competition.
Not only did the tech not diagnose the problem, he actually said he thought that i needed to replace the motherboard on the router. Really. He said that. He then said that 2nd level would get back to me. That never happened.
Luckily, I sorted out the issue myself, but if it took me another twenty minutes I was going to send the router back.
