Im just wondering if a future firmware will add cake as an option in QOS for units that can support it considering there was a thread a while back where a user had it working to some degree.
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/rt-ac86u-i-built-cake.49190/

I was doing reading and research into the per packet overheads and I noticed that there is a 2 different sets of values for it in the way of overhead calculations as well as, multiple scrips variants of it.

This all has me wondering what kind of performance benefits cake might have compared to FQ-Codel, id be interested in testing a build with it enabled on my ax88u, id just be too hopeless to compile it.

No.

1) Not supported by kernel 4.1
2) Adaptive QoS is closed source, so we can't rewrite its rules to use Cake.

Ahh well that's a shame then,
Thank you anyway for clearing that up.

But I still don't understand how that other user got it working on his 86u.

Anyway I'll go ask on the Asus WRT side of things if they have any plans for cake in the future.

He backported patches to his kernel. That doesn't mean it was fully working, or that he got Adaptive QoS to use it.

Gotcha all good I'll just wait until a future unit has it implemented probably by five years time hopefully gives me time to finish my studies and start working so I can get it straight away at that time. :)

And thank you again Merlin for all the hard work.
