Can anything be done to accelerate URL filtering?

I've started utilizing ASUS router URL filtering to enhance privacy within my home and have placed few keywords in there for most offending things like:
facebook
twitter
google

Now, I don't use any of these services so I'm fine with absolute blocking. The only problem is Google and their stupid fonts from "fonts.googleapis.com" that seems to be loading on bunch of webpages and makes pages load for several seconds which is SUPER annoying.

Now, is there anything that can be done on Merlin router firmware side to reject blocked connections faster or is this entirely down to webpage just taking a moment for resources to respond and when they actually look like they timed out, it continues to load the webpage, resulting in multisecond pauses?

Example for this is: https://linustechtips.com

Have you looked at amtm, Diversion, and Skynet?

If you have a spare USB drive you can leave connected to your router, you may find the above trio offers everything you need. Including much more (amtm is basically a 'menu' system for supported scripts).

What router do you have? What firmware are you running? If you have a currently supported RMerlin Asus router you may want to follow the amtm Step-by-Step guide to increase the control over your router/network and with a swap file, increase it's stability too.
