Cannot AI Mesh two AX58 routers

For some reason, I cannot AI Mesh two of my AX58 routers (one as a node), but will AIMesh with RT-AC68U's (t-mobile and original versions as nodes). I updated all the units with the latest merlin 386.1.2 firmware.

has anyone else encountered this problem or have a fix?

Did you Aimesh them with stock Asuswrt first to know they are working as shipped?

I did not test the two AX58’s with the stock firmware beforehand :[.

Am I SOL?

Also, AI Meshing with the two AX58's (one as a node) via ethernet does successfully mesh, but not over WiFi.
