Cannot login to router after changing LAN Static IP

New Around Here
Folks,

Fairly basic question .. I have a Asus RT-AC68U (T-Mobile converted router ) flashed with Merlin firmware 380.64_2 and I am trying to use it as an Access Point behind an ATT Pace 5268AC gateway (LAN hardwired connection from the Pace gateway to LAN on the Asus router) to get better WiFi coverage inside the house. Once I log into the router using 192.168.1.1 the wizard guides me into setting up AP mode and I give it a Static IP of 192.168.1.250 and DHCP is disabled. I wanted to modify the wireless channels from the default "auto" to "1" for the 2.4GHz band, however I am unable to log into the router again using the 192.168.1.250 address. I am hardwired from my laptop LAN port to the LAN port on the ASUS router. I have tried ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew and also turned OFF the router and laptop and turned both back ON, however I am still unable to log into the router.

The only way to log back on is to reset to factory defaults by using the physical button on the back of the router and then I can connect to the router on the default 192.168.1.1.

Can anyone please enlighten me on how I can log back onto the router once I set a static IP ?

Thanks!

I believe that once the router is in access point mode it gets a new DHCP-issued IP address from the gateway device (I think it actually says this in the ASUS GUI).

So to find out what the new IP address is you can either look on the gateway device (Pace) or use the Asus Device Discovery Utility.

Thanks @ColinTaylor ... I had not physically connected it to the Pace gateway yet .. so seems like I can probably access the router on the new DHCP-issued IP address from the gateway device after I make the physical connection to the gateway and no way to do that before I connect it.

Appreciate your response. Thanks!

What is the ip of your laptop?
After converting to accesspoint the dhcp server is no longer active. If there is no other dhcp server the laptop can connect to, it will not get the necessary IP adress. You will need to assign it manually.
