What are you trying to do using or with a VPN?
If you are trying to connect all your networked devices using a VPN running on your router that can be done using Merlin. Setting up a PPTP connection on the router is straight forward. Sign up for a VPN account with a VPN provider then using your user name, password and IP from them enter the information on the VPN section.
If you need more security then you are going to have to run OpenVPN as PPTP has been busted. Installing and running OpenVPN is more involved.
If you want to keep it simple here is link for a VPN provider that has developed an applet for installing OpenVPN on an ASUS router running Merlin's firmware.

Wrote a bunch of text twice, both got deleted due to forum error. Dafug.
Basically I need to get my devices connected through the VPN. Some devices doesn't have the function to do so, so doing it through the router is the best option for me.
I can only see settings for OpenVPN client and server, as well as PPTP server settings, under the section VPN Server. Where do I input my VPN client ip and user/pass?

Help with VPN setup configuring please.
Hi, since I am having an Asus NT66U VPN problem, I will ask it here too. I set up and configured my VPN on the router with previous firmware version and remember I got it working to access my local home lan devices. But after I updated to the latest .270 firmware, I can connect to the VPN successfully, but after that, I cannot ping nor see any of my network devices behind the VPN router. I have tried with broadcasts turned on and off. Neither setting allows me to see my local devices from my remotely connected PC, tablet or smartphone device. I set the VPN Client ipaddress pool to 192.168.1.244 through 192.168.1.253 range, same subnet as my internal home LAN. What else must I configure? Static routes? what? Or is this feature broken.
Note: Turning on any or all broadcast modes on the VPN setup screen will cause tons of eth1 and eth0 error log messages to fill the log. This I know is a long standing bug that has never been fixed. But it did not stop the VPN from working on the old firmware, so I would think it should not be the issue now on the new firmware either. But who knows.

Is no one using VPN that can answer my question?
Is no one using built in VPN on this router? No one can answer my question on what I have to configure to make my remote VPN connected Android smartphone see my local home share devices behind the VPN router? RMerlin, where are you!?Please advise if you can.

To be honest, I haven't answered this message because I have already answered the same question too many times, sorry. Search this forum for PPTP VPN information, you will find all the needed information on how to configure your IP ranges to ensure proper access to LAN devices.

I did try to search for related VPN postings but could not find any. I even thought I had asked a similar question before (a long while ago pertaining to this same symptom and I think you did answer it) but I could not find it and it does not even show up in my own personal posting history.
I will try to search once again using the more specific words you just recommended.

Update: I did find several thread postings using search words "PPTP VPN" and figured out why my situation was not seeing the shares.
It was because my remote network subnet was the using same subnet as my home VPN router network (192.168.1.x). I changed my ATT Hotspot (remote router) subnet to something other than the default 192.168.1.x ipaddress range and was able to see my shares.

Too many error log entries when VPN Broadcasts is on.
Are they ever going to fix the bug where the system log is flooded with eth1 and eth0 error messages when the VPN Broadcast setting is enabled (along with the Samba setting enabled)? This bug has existed for the longest time and every new firmware issued does not even address it to fix it. It would seem like a simple fix. So why has it been ignored. I want to turn on VPN Broadcasting but I read in another thread that it does indeed impact router throughput processing performance when steaming. I hope the developers take this concern seriously and fix it finally.
Update 06/22/2013 - I just submitted a report to ASUS on their support webpage about this issue with the "Broadcast" syslog error messages. Let's see if they will respond and fix it finally. This is such a simple fix, I don't know why they have not fixed it yet. RMerlin, I am sure you can fix it immediately, so how come you also have not done that for your own versions as well as tell ASUS developers how to fix it? At least comment out or disable the spot where it goes to log these eth1 and eth0 error messages so it does not use up processor cycles for now.
