Connecting Wi-fi with Wi-fi

New Around Here
Hello from the Netherlands.

I have just bought the RT-N66U.In my building we have one Internet connection for all the apartments. The cable router is in the basement and there are access points in every floor. There are no ethernet plugs in the apartments and we are all connected with Wi-fi, encrypted with WPA2.

I want the RT-N66U to connect to the access point and then give Internet to my LAN both with Wi-Fi and ethernet.I figured out that this is not possible with the official firmware. Therefore i flashed the router with TomatoUSB 1.28 . But still I cannot find a way .Can anyone please help me?

Thank you:) .

Assuming your building Wifi is 2.4GHz, set the RT-N66U Wireless Network to Wireless Client with the proper SSID, WPA2 key with Wireless Network Mode set to Auto or N only if the building Wifi supports 802.11N. You can then still provide LAN and 802.11a Wifi from the RT-N66U's 5GHz wireless radio...

First of all, thank you for your quick response.

I don't know the frequency of my building's wi-fi. How can i figure it out?let's assume it's 2,4 GHz though.

From what i understand, the 2,4 GHz has to be set as wireless client? what about the 5 GHz? should it be wireless ethernet bridge ?

5GHz would be Wireless Mode: Access Point and this would be set to the SSID you want your wireless clients that are 802.11a capable to connect to...

I'm running Shibby's Tomato on my RT-N66U and you can look for avail wireless SSID and their details (quality, channel either 2.4GHz or 5GHz) under Tools and Wireless Site Survey of the tomato firmware GUI...

You can try the attached examples for settings. I just chose a static IP for your wireless router of 192.168.32.1 with a gateway of 192.168.1.1. You can verify your current gateway from your building's Wifi by looking at Network Connection Details tab from one of your computers. You may have to change these settings depending on your current gateway.

While trying to adjust the settings according to your suggestions and as i could not make it work,i tried quite few combinations. It is now working:) with the 2.4 GHz working as "Wireless Ethernet Bridge" and the 5 GHz as "Access Point & WDS".I don't know if it is supposed to work like that, but it does. So,by applying the golden rule "If it works, don't touch it." :D ,I will leave it like that for the time being.

Thank you very much for your help and your time.If any more problems occur, I will return.

:)
