A post for connection of an ASUS RT-AC86U router elsewhere on this forum helped me enormously in getting an ASUS AX-XT8 router and mesh system connected today.
I post this in the hope this helps future Connect fibre customers to connect using the AX-XT8 router.
The standard Connect fibre link to "use your own router" does not include the requirement to set WLAN to automatic IP. For ease I attach below all of the settings applied to my AX=-XT8 ASUS router and where they reside in the menu structure:-
