Anybody here using the R9000. I'm on the R7800 right now but the R9000 is an intriguing piece of hardware, particularly for the ability to do Amazon Cloud backup.

indeed i am and i love my R9000 as it handles my 2gb fiber connection very well for consumer hardware. i dont use the backup on it anymore after amazon became to expense to store my boat loads of data. still it is a nice perc for those that might use it

So is R9000 better in terms of performance than R7800? I have been looking at these two routers for a while and was curious as what the overall verdict was. I see that they have different CPUs but don’t know a whole lot about Netgear.

Spec wise yes the R9000 is twice as powerful comparing to the R7800. I just prefer the R9000 because it has a sfp+ port that can handle my fiber connection above 1 gig speeds, other then that it also has 7 lan ports vs the standard 5 on most things these days. At the end of the day i would say the R9000 is a bit overkill for most people and the 802.11ad on it is useless mostly because it was out of style before it even came to a device in favor of 802.11ax also known as "WiFi 6". For me the R9000 only does my basic routing, i have a seprate sever that does my dns, dhcp, firewall etcetera. My setup is 900% overkill for home users but hey i have bragging rights at work and will never in the foreseeable future run into a speed issue.
