Have read a lot on the internet on how to hook these two together but have not been able to so far. Could someone give me a step by step guide on how to do this. It's to a computer that I have dual booted with XP and Windows 8. Thank you.

Is your ISP PPPoE or PPPoA?

If it's pppoe, then read page 36 of your dlink user manual on how to configure bridged Ethernet. Then you connect the Ethernet cable to the Asus router's Internet port and follow the wizard. You'll need to know your DSL username and password and enter them when prompted.
