Data transfer speed between two connected HDD's

I'm only transferring at a 2 MB/s when moving files between two connected USB 2.0 external HDD's. I've never used the USB ports on a router before, but should this be as slow as it is?

I'm also at a terribly slow transfer rate through wifi on 2.4ghz, typically 3-5 MB/s.

I haven't tried any custom FW, currently on Asus 354 version.

it because your using the stock firmware... merlin's custom firmware does 15 megabytes a second transfer rate while stock asus firmware does 3-5 megabytes a second... im just wait for merlin to release the new 354 version. side note the new ac67u(im going 2 buy it asap) has 2 usb 3.0 ports and dual core cpu so we should get some real high end speeds for lan transfer...

Asus should have the same SMB throughput as me, they applied the same optimization to Samba a few revisions ago.

Is Samba something different than just plugging in the 2 external HDD's and enabling DLNA Media Server? I didn't touch Samba in the configuration and would that increase the file transfer speeds between the two HDD's connected to the 2 USB ports on the AC66?

I'm not really sure I understand the difference between the two are

Samba is the server software that allows you to connect over Windows File Sharing.

Better way for direct copying between 2 HDD's is using Midnight Commander. You will receive much higher speeds. You must install MC via Optware.
