New Around Here
Been a browser here for quite some time....always getting good information on setup and troubleshooting ASUS systems. I've recently upgraded my system and while Ethernet speeds are great, Wifi leaves much to be desired.

I followed @OzarkEdge 's post almost verbatim during setup.

Xfinity gigabit service
Motorola MB8600 modem
AC86U main router
AC68U AIMesh node via 5e Ethernet
AC68U AIMesh node via 5e Ethernet
2.4 and 5 are on separate SSIDs.

Firmware is current after resetting all routers to factory settings. Again, I followed OzarkEdge's post for most of the setup so won't get detailed on what's already been done.

Standing 5' from the AC86U I can't get anything more than 250Mbps on 5Ghz with any device (iPhone XR etc.)
Ethernet on all clients reaches 940Mbps+.

AIMesh is working fine and I don't have any dropout issues.

I've tried multiple channels using inSSIDer along with many other suggestions from other threads about optimizing Wifi Professional settings.

Anything simple I'm missing? Thanks!

What is the wireless client's connection link rate speed? 866Mbps?

I'd start by trying to simplify the WiFi setup as much as possible. So power off the two AiMesh nodes completely and see if that has any effect on the speed. I'd also check the WiFi client and the router's wireless log to see what link speed the client is connecting at.

The stations list for 5Ghz in the Wifi log is empty. Is that a problem? I do have multiple clients on 5Ghz.

Are you absolutely sure your clients are connecting to this router and not another one? That's why I asked you to power off the other access points.

That could be a problem. Maybe your 86U is sick. I would get it working first before adding nodes. If it fails that, you could try a 2x68U AiMesh in the interim.

My usual approach to weirdness is to start over... flash the 86U and get it working standalone first.

Both nodes powered down. Checked log and all clients connected to 86U.

Connection link rates: 866.7M TX 780M RX 5' from router.

Speed on iPhone XR 5Ghz: 150Mbps 5' from router.

How are you testing speed? Have you tested using a PC?
