Disabled LEDs on AIMESH Node keep turning back on ?

I have an LED issue with an RT-AX86U Pro and an RT-AX58U AIMESH Node I.e. the main router LEDs stay off, but the node’s LEDs seem to come on after a period of time (a day).

The LED switch is off for both Routers and Node in the ASUS Router App (and WebAdmin) and toggling it makes them turn off, so it does work, but doesn’t seem to be sticking.

Also, I’m not sure how to check whether a node reboots (if that is the cause) as the log seems only for the main router or is there some other way to check?

I had a look at this thread https://www.snbforums.com/threads/leds-keep-coming-back-on.83489/ but it doesn’t seem to be resolved. “By studying the logs it seems the LEDs get reactivated when something changes on the LAN or wifi - not disconnects but more like when the WiFi group key refreshes, or the lease renews, or a channel change. It can also be triggered by making serious changes to the lan or wifi settings.”

this one describes how to turn them on or off via SSH; https://www.snbforums.com/threads/leds-with-mesh-nodes.65849/ but if the WebGUI or ASUS Router App already has an LED toggle, again, why is this not sticky/honoured?
