They will actually send you an email (within 24hrs) with the results of what happened on your last update if there were errors. If they do, you can copy & paste in a PM to me and we can try to go through your config and get it to work.
Your Asus main admin page should be telling you it updated it ok, DNSomatic should have a green thumbs up on your admin page by the service, and the first time you might need to kick start it by unplugging your modem (& pop it's battery if it has one) for 15 min, turn off your router. Then plug in modem, wait for it to sync up with ISP a few min, then power up your router and it should have a fresh IP announcement to pass along.
Thank you again! I played around with the settings and did get an e-mail which confirmed I had gotten it right. For reference the setup for DNS-O-Matic is:
Hostname: 'all.dnsomatic.com' (Don't ask me why, but it's what works)
User name or e-mail address : 'username' (Using e-mail didn't work)
Password: 'password'
Now I have the RT-N66U do the OpenDNS update through DNS-O-Matic and update my dynamic DNS address with FreeDNS.afraid.org. All in one unattended operation.
The log also confirms is works:
Oct 9 09:53:50 ddns update: connected to updates.dnsomatic.com (67.215.92.215) on port 80.
Oct 9 09:53:50 ddns update: request successful
Oct 9 09:53:50 ddns update: asusddns_update: 0
Oct 9 09:53:50 ddns: ddns update ok
Oct 9 10:13:54 rc_service: httpd 309:notify_rc restart_ddns
Oct 9 10:13:54 ddns: IP address, server and hostname have not changed since the last update.
I used DNS-O-Matic with my old D-Link as well and it's a great service where you can do all your DNS related operations through the router not having to run and scripts and/or clients on a machine in your network. They support all major dyndns services in addition to OpenDNS of course (I'm using them for for parental controls).
