DNS Servers in AP Mode

Can anyone confirm that the DNS Server settings in Access Point mode are only used for resolving address requests from the AP itself (e.g. NTP, firmware update checks, etc.)?

My RT-AC86U in AP mode appears to be working fine without the DNS servers specified, but the NTP server had to be entered as an IP address.

I found a few old posts on this, but nothing definitive.

Thank you in advance!
