dnscrypt/merlin - sometimes slow dns for cdn domains?

Occasional Visitor
I am using merlin, skynet, diversion and the dnscrypt installed from amtm on the AX88U, which I have pointed to quad9, and using dnsmasq with networkmanager on the linux host connected by ethernet to the router. It has a firewall with iptables rules, block host files and opensnitch and resolv.conf pointing to the local dnsmasq. I have noticed sometimes the calls to look up typekit or another cdn like domain is slow. Shouldn't this get cached? Why would these calls ever be slow? Is there some kind of security issue potentially or just a bug or misconfiguration? This usually is resolved if I reboot the router and then I do not see the issue for a while.
