Downgrade to 270

Hi
So i upgraded to latest official firmware.
Big mistake...
I cant use the 5ghz from my room anymore.
Both my laptops (intel wifi) sometimes disconnects.
My android phone have a really slow connection and i cant use skype because of it.
My mothers Mac laptop have same problems with disconnections.
(Yes, i have done a total reset of the router.)

So i would like to downgrade to .270 which had none of these problems.

How?

Simply download, flash, and reset to factory default. Asus doesn't prevent downgrading.

Any idea where i can download the older firmwares?
There are only 2 avalible on asus.com
All of the old merlin releases would be nice too.
I have googled but cant find anything...

Asuming you talk about the RT-N66U.
The Asus site offers the 3.0.0.4.276 build (besides 3.0.0.4.374.720).

276 should be similar to 270.
If you really want 270, drop me a mail, I have it available.

Note: when switching between those quite different builds: allways hard reset to return to factory defaults and enter all setting manual (do not load a config backup from an other build version).

I keep reading all these negative reports about the wireless range and reliability of the .374 firmware. I feel left out of this experience. Maybe I was lucky and I happened to obtain special RT-N66Us because all three of them with the .374 firmware seem to have better connection reliability and throughput than before the upgrade and 5Ghz has been especially impressive for one of my routers in an office location surrounded by concrete walls. After the firmware upgrade the range and connectivity increased dramatically. It can reach devices in a location three rooms away when it couldn't reach half that distance before. It's only been a week though since the upgrade. The negative reports seem so convincing. I will try to give my routers more time to see if I experience any drawbacks.

For all intent and purposes, 276 is about the same thing as 270.

I keep a reasonable amount of historical releases on Mediafire. Keep in mind that the older RT-N66U versions were moved into a different folder, to ensure that people do not accidentally flash them on newer RT-N66Us, which are NOT compatible.

I tend to limit how far back in time I keep them available however, because at some point a version that's too old becomes pointless to use, considering the amount of bugs that have been found and fixed over time, including critical security issues that have since been disclosed.

Reliability and stablity is very good with the new driver, the prime issue has to do with range. I can definitely measure a difference in signal strength here when I compare it with either the older driver, or with an RT-AC66U sitting right next to it. If you don't have too many walls/floors to go through, then you probably wouldn't notice the reduced range.

Or, your router was previously so badly configured that it was already not working at its best, so you can't tell the difference But I doubt it

Have you ran inSSIDer to see the other networks in your area?

No, i havnt. But i did now. It shows the same networks as windows does!?

Ok but now it shows the channels. Try to pick a channel with the least networks. Your router acting slow could be net congestion.

it says alla other networks are on 11 and a few on 1.

Use channel 6. Never use any other channel other then 1, 6 and 11. With those channels there is less likely of them being overlapped. If your using channel 2 it now has overlapped channel 1 and 6 which will cause a bad signal.

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure if it says 2 and 6, it's because he has on it 20/40 width and it is using 40 MHz. Might be better if he reads Merlin sticky thread which says to use "20 MHz" width.

I dont know why, but it wasnt possible to flash any of the old merlin firmwares the normal way?!
The new ones and both the officiall worked, but when trying to use the .270.26b the settingspage just hanged.
So i used the recovery tool instead.
Now its on 26b and i get 5ghz in my room.
I also get over 100mbps according to windows. (got about 50 with new firmware)

YEEEY, thats awesome!

I think ill keep this firmware for a while.

Is it something that i should be careful about? Security?

By the way, the range hade doubled.
No joke! I can connect even farther away than my room now.
Maybe its this house from 1600 that has magic (superthick) stone walls that didnt like the new firmware.
